First Presbyterian Church of Monroe, Michigan

Annual Events

Spring

  • Confirmation: A five month opportunity for younger teens to explore their faith, the Bible, and the responsibilities of Church membership. Activities include two retreats, weekly meetings, group building, a mission project, and other projects. The confirmation church service is one of the highlights of the church year.
  • Lenten Supper: During lent, there are weekly services on Wednesday nights following a theme for Lent, and on one Wednesday, a soup and bread dinner precedes the service.
  • Easter: Easter is celebrated with two services in our congregation. The early one is in the prayer "garden" and the second service celebrates the resurrection through the joyful use of brass, choir, and song. Between the two services is an all church breakfast for fellowship.
  • Graduation Party: We honor our seniors graduation from high school in worship and with a special lunch following.

Summer

  • Sloppy Sundae: Church Deacons provide a party for the congregation to welcome home youth that went to church camp. Sloppy joes and ice cream sundaes are on the menu.
  • Picnic in the Street: Each summer, we celebrate the end of bible school with an all church picnic in the street. There are games for young and old, and there is plenty of good food to eat.

Autumn

  • Stewardship Campaign: Each fall, we ask people to prayerfully consider their pledge to the church for the following year. Both monetary and/or prayer support are sought; therefore, the goal is for a 100% response.
  • Friendship Dinners: The purpose of these dinners is to encourage fellowship within the congregation. Groups of eight are formed that will share four dinners together during the year.

Winter

  • Mission Fair: This is an opportunity for members of the congregation to view displays of the mission projects and activities of the church. The outreach committee coordinates the fair.
  • Hanging of the Greens: This event welcomes Advent. Decorations are placed and hung around the church, Christmas crafts and activities are available, and a dinner is served. The hanging of the greens is closed with the signing of Christmas carols sung in the Sanctuary.

Other Events/Activities

  • Inquirers Lunches: Twice a year, new members of the church are invited to explore the mission and activities of our church and the Presbyterian denomination.
  • New Member Tea: The new member tea is a chance for people to meet and greet the new members of our congregation.
  • Student Loans: Loans are available to individuals in our congregation seeking higher education. The loans are interest free as long as they are in school.
